Testimonial from Nick Moore Deputy Principal at The City Literary Institute

Veronica Slater was the coordinator of the Painting and Drawing programme at The City Lit
and was herself an art tutor here. She worked for us for 17 years teaching painting and
drawing. In April 2009 she applied for and received voluntary redundancy in order to continue
her career as an artist and pursue projects as a freelance art educator.

She taught on a variety of programmes including the 2-year City Lit Fine Arts course which
she originally set up and was involved with on a developmental level. This is a specialist
programme involving fine art practice for adult students who may wish to access higher
education or set up in their own studio. On the CLFA she arranged a teaching exchange with
Long Island University, New York State, U.S.A as well as giving talks in NZ, Australia &
Malaysia whilst on sabbatical. She also taught a range of short courses as well as the Art
Foundation Course. Over the years Veronica has organised a programme of high profile
visiting artists and curators including Sarah Lucas, Helen Chadwick, Sonia Boyce and Rene
    Gimpel.

She recently worked in partnership with The Arts Council of England on a set of initiatives to
develop courses on buying and collecting contemporary art. This has involved contributions
from Christies, Cultureshock publishers and international gallery directors such as David
Risley. It is an ongoing project, building on the initial first course that was a sell out.
As well as being a successful practitioner and a talented artist in her own right who exhibits
regularly, she is a highly skilled and able tutor whose students achieve at a very high
standard with many graduating to university. I have observed her teaching and she is an
inspiring tutor who knows how to get the best from her students. She is organised, efficient
and an excellent planner. Furthermore, she is highly articulate and a very good
    communicator.

Veronica is a sensitive tutor who is well attuned to the needs of adult students. She is hugely
popular and much admired at City Lit. Her courses were always full. I would have no
hesitation in recommending her for any positions she applies for and know that she will
perform to the highest professional standard in future projects. She would be an asset to any
    organisation.
